Socializing and entertaining by storytelling and listening to stories represents an important part of Slovenian folk tradition. In Žirovnica we are preserving this tradition with the Fairytale Evenings, held in front of the Finžgar’s Birth House in Doslovče. Thursday evenings in July and August remain truly fairytale-like in the pleasant surroundings of the charming Finžgar’s Homestead. The events start at 7:30 pm.

The Fairytale Evenings are intimate events for smaller number of visitors. The first event was organized in 2016, featuring storytellers Verena Vidrih Perko, Irena Leskovšek and Breda Podbrežnik with traditional folk stories from the rich treasury of the Slovenian cultural heritage. The event has grown since its beginnings and is extended today to dramatic and musical performances, such as Slovenian Chansons, Ethnic bands, stories with topical content…, presented by small chamber ensembles. So far, we have been hosting artists, such as Brina Vogelnik, Svetlana Makarovič, Andrej Rozman Roza, Miha Mazzini, Desa Muck, Janez Škof, Adi Smolar, Boštjan Gorenc Pižama and others.

The performances are held in the open air, at the courtyard of the Finžgar’s birth house in Doslovče. In the event of bad weather, the performance is moved into indoor space.

Musicians Chris Eckman, Ivan Arnšek, Brina Vogelnik, Jelena Ždrale and other performers will join us at this year’s Fairytale Evenings. The events are going to be hosted by storyteller Irena Leskovšek and the museum guide Petra Kržan.
